I talked to Pat Castaldo this afternoon. He had a chance to look at
the drawing of the end section today. It looked OK to him, but he
wanted to review the drawings with Gary Coller and Jim Borzalli. I
believe we will have a go ahead on Monday.
--He asked about the material for the struts. I said the material was
4" x 4" x 1/2 steel square tubing. The "ST" must be an abbreviation for
a tee section in the AISC book, and he was looking through the material
to find a 4" by 4" size. (Let me know if my I gave him bad
information).
--The 1.5" plates top and bottom is a good selection. They have some
excess material called HY80. He believes this is a navy call-out, 80
KSI, material. He claims this material is excellent for welding, and
the welders have the filler material to use when joining with 572
material. The other material( 3/4"and 1") call-outs on your sketch is
similar to the first design and they no problem getting it.
--His purchasing department has not placed the order for the long
I-beams yet. They are just taking a long time doing it.
--He has not decided if the 40' beams will be cut off at the end box, or
if he will leave them extend.
--The deck pressure on the bridge is specified to be 160 psi and limited
to approx. 64000 lbs. per axle. To accomplish this he will be adding
extensions to the loading beam that goes across the top of bridge. There
will be two loading pads at each end of the loading beam, with
centerline spaced about 1 meter apart. Each loading pad is approx.
20"x10".
--I asked if we could weld some angle clips at our installation to mount
E-Stop boxes, and electrical junction boxes. He said they would have a
welder(man and machine) available when we need it.
--I will fax him a copy of the bearing material(Garlock DU sleeve
bearing) to Pat Castaldo. I told him that the steel on steel will work.
He can decide if he wants the sleeve bearing.
--I will follow-up with Pat on Monday.
